They had a table with a sign that said, “How Can We Pray For You?”
People went up and wrote down things they wanted them to pray for.
I wanted to write, “Pray for the speedy recovery and return of Sidney Crosby”
I figured that this might be wrong, but then I thought to myself, “is it so wrong to ask people to pray for someone to recover and get back to full health?” The answer is no, it isn’t.
Who’s to judge where my priorities in life are at the moment? Not them.
So now I’m mad that I didn’t ask them to do so.
Then again, their first response would have been, “Who’s Sidney Crosby?”
Sidney Crosby being interviewed by Shaun Majumder
I was just made aware of this video today. Unreal stuff.
How did I not know about this? Why did the rest of my fellow Penguins fans hide it from me?
All I know is that my mind is blown.
Penguins 2
Senators 1
Sidney. F’in. Crosby.
Wow.
The Penguins needed this game. And the guy with the 87 on the back of his sweater and the C on the front made sure that they were going to win. He wasn’t going to let the Penguins lose this game.
The game got off to a rocky start when some joke got a puck past Marc-Andre Fleury 18 seconds into the game. I wasn’t even finished taking the first sip of my beer when that goal was scored. I wasn’t too worried though. Speaking of that, I’m not sure what it is, but I’m not at all worried about the Penguins losing this series. I’m usually a nervous wreck during games, but these first two games I’ve been somewhat loose and relaxed. Maybe I’m just growing up.
Anyway, that was really all that the Senators did the entire game as Marc-Andre Fleury shut the door after that. The Flower did what he had to do to win the game tonight and he bounced back after a shaky performance in Game One on Wednesday, just as he always does.
But this night belonged to Sidney Crosby. After a great takeaway by Chris Kunitz, Crosby got the rebound off of Kunitz’s shot and buried it to tie the game.
In the third he made what would have been the play of the game if it weren’t for what he did later. Senators defenseman Anton Volchenkov’s shot trickled past Fleury and just as it stopped along the goal-line, Crosby dove and chipped the puck away. What a great play.
But the play of the night came with about four minutes left. Crosby got the puck, dangled a bit, made Jason Spezza his bitch, passed the puck to Letang from his knees. Tanger shoots.
Goal.
LeGame.
That was one of the best displays of keeping the play alive that I’ve ever seen by Crosby. That play was unreal.
Hat’s Off
Like I said before, this was a MUCH needed win for the Penguins and this performance was much more inspired that Wednesday’s.
We’ll see if they can keep it up.
Also, I was glad that I got to watch one last game with my good friends Bobby Hartin and Nick Case. Not sure that I’ll be in Charleston anytime soon to watch the playoffs and it was good to watch with two of the people that I got to be around for last year’s Cup run.
LET’S GO PENS!!!

I figure that today is as good as any to post this.
Sidney Crosby’s playoff goal against the Ottawa Senators in Game 2 of the first round of the 2007 NHL Playoffs.
Even though we got our asses kicked in this series, this was such a memorable goal. Not to mention this was probably Mark Recchi’s last great moment as a Penguin (he didn’t do anything with them the next year except get benched and ultimately waived). What a pass.
I remember watching the third period in the studio at the radio station I worked at right after my shift ended and screaming like a mad man when this happened.
Gotta love playoff hockey.
I can honestly say that the Gold Medal game between the United States of America and Canada was the best hockey game I’ve ever seen.
Even though I’m upset that Canada beat the United States to take home the gold medal, I’m glad that it was Sidney Crosby that scored the game winner. It takes a little bit of the sting off of a heartbreaking loss.
The way this game played out was unreal. If this was game was a hockey movie and it included an improbable goal in the last 30 seconds of the third period followed by the games biggest star scoring the game winning goal in overtime (not to mention a two goal comeback), you would have said, “That was a good movie until that stupid ass ending”. That’s how unbelievable this game was.
Now onto the point of this entry: I’ve never been shy about my feelings about Sidney Crosby and where he ranks in the world of hockey. He’s the best in the game. He proved that yet again today.
There are certain guys in sports that just have a feel for “the moment”. They perform well in the biggest situations. They are “clutch” if you will. When the game is on the line they want the ball (in this case the puck).
Needless to say, in hockey that guy is Sidney Crosby.
Let’s be honest, Crosby scored the biggest goal that a hockey player can dream of scoring: The Game Winning Goal in overtime of the Gold Medal Game.
Yes, scoring the game winner to win the gold is much bigger than scoring the game winner in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final (but not by much).
When he did score that goal, I was not at all surprised. I’ve been watching the guy for years as a Penguin and time after time I’ve seen him step up and make the big play. This was another one of those times.
In the first week of the games during an intermission of one of the round robin games, Mike Milbury and Jeremy Roenick had a discussion about who they would start a team with: Sidney Crosby or Alexander Ovechkin. Milbury said he’d take Crosby. Roenick said he’d take Ovechkin (using that bullshit “Ovechkin plays with so much heart and passion” theory).
Obviously I’d take Crosby. Ovechkin may put up better numbers statistically, but Crosby is a winner. Plain and simple. Not to mention he puts up big numbers as well.
If this were basketball, Crosby would be like Bill Russell and Ovechkin would be like Wilt Chamberlain. Chamberlain had the great stats. Russell had the championships. Or in more modern terms: Crosby is Kobe Bryant. Ovechkin is LeBron James.
With that being said, I’m glad the Olympics are over. I can go back to cheering on the Penguins and actually liking Sidney Crosby.
I’ve been waiting two weeks to say this: LET’S GO PENS!!!

And again Sidney Crosby’s team eliminates Alexander Ovechkin’s.
Not that this loss was entirely on Ovechkin (I believe Malkin had a pretty costly turnover early in the game as well) but it’s yet another case where Crosby’s team won when it mattered.
I would be doing a disservice to everyone that reads this blog if I didn’t call out Ovechkin for his defense on Shea Weber’s goal. It would seem as though that Ovie still doesn’t grasp the concept of back-checking.
I figured it would have been Mike Babcock whose personnel decisions have been questionable that would have coached his team out of a chance for a medal, but it was Russia’s coach Vyacheslav Bykov that ended up doing that tonight.

Pardon me, but I believe Sidney has already had his “moment” has he not?
I need some of my Canadian followers to help me out here: does it mean more for a Canadian player to win a gold medal in the Olympics or win the Stanley Cup?
I would think the Stanley Cup would be bigger, but then again I’m not only a hockey fan that comes from America, but one that is from the Deep South, so maybe I don’t have much perspective when it comes to this stuff.
It isn’t quite as sweet as beating the Flyers or Capitals, but anytime Red Wings fans get knocked down a peg or two it is always nice.
Suck it, Detroit.
P.S. It’s So Cold In The D
Sidney Crosby blocking a shot during last night’s 4-3 win over Anaheim.
Anyone that questions Crosby’s toughness and leadership can suck it.
